SA Urban Pet Market Success

Every month, we look forward to seeing everyone at the SA Urban Pet Market that takes places at Travis Park in downtown San Antonio.

The venue itself provides the perfect atmosphere. There are lots of trees that provide shade, grass, dog run, and lots of space for all the participants. It was recently renovated and it is a beautiful oasis in the middle of the city.

At the first event in March, 2014, we had with 12 vendors. So far for the August 16, 2014 event, we will have over 30 participants and have gained sponsors that support our mission. The event was created to focus on supporting local organizations that are working to make San Antonio an animal no-kill city.

I get so excited when I received phone calls and emails sharing the excitement over the event each month. The challenge is getting the word out and letting people in our community know what we're doing.

I've met some incredible people that were quick to jump on board to help – Cindy Kelleher (Cindy Kelleher Photo), Kim Smith (Pawderosa Ranch), Michelle Popilek (City Veterinary Hospital), David Rodriguez (DJ Caliente) among others that have made a commitment to be there each and every month.

The local media has been good to us and we've been featured in the San Antonio Express-News, The Current, KSAT 12 News, Time Warner Cable News, SA Kids Magazine and are included in numerous community calendars.

Our vendor partners are amazing people and are always happy to be at each event. We have been very blessed to find others with the same mind set. They are not just there to offer their products and service but to support the cause.

With the support from our sponsors – Pawderosa Ranch, City Veterinary Hospital, City of San Antonio, Lucy's Doggy Daycare, Purina Beneful – we have gained the ability to promote the event, print t-shirts and other promo items.

Local dog-friendly businesses have been supportive by donating door prizes and contest prizes to help make the event even more fun.

The event has provided us many rewards – meeting lots of new furry friends, talking with like-minded people, enjoying the fun stuff each month – but above all, being able to make monetary donations to the local animal rescue groups. They work tirelessly every single day rescuing homeless, abandoned, sick and unwanted dogs and cats. To them, I send a heart-felt thank you that words just can't express.

Thank you, San Antonio, for making the SA Urban Pet Market a success! For more details, visit the SA Urban Pet Market website.
